Ingredients
Method
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan (or line with parchment paper for easy removal).
- Mix the Brown Sugar/Cinnamon Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Prepare the Apple Mixture: In a separate bowl, toss the chopped apples with the granulated sugar and cinnamon.
Layer the Batter:
- Pour half of the apple bread batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
- Top with half of the chopped apple mixture.
- Sprinkle with half of the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
- Repeat layers: remaining batter, remaining apple mixture, remaining brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
- Swirl: Use a knife to swirl through the batter a few times, creating a marbled effect.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk (or cream) until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread.
Notes
- Use Room Temperature Ingredients: This helps the ingredients to combine more easily and creates a more even texture.
- Don't Overmix: Overmixing the batter can result in a tough bread.
- Chop the Apples Small: This ensures that they distribute evenly throughout the bread.
- Check for Doneness: A toothpick inserted into the center of the bread should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs attached.
- Let It Cool Completely: This allows the bread to set up and makes it easier to slice.
